What Type of Grinder Should I Get for Hobbyist Use?

Hey folks! I'm a hobbyist who's looking to buy my first grinder and could really use some recommendations. I'm leaning towards a battery-operated grinder since I won't be using it every day, but I'm open to corded models if they offer significant advantages. I've also been wondering about the choices between trigger and paddle switches—do they really make a difference? And what about disc diameter; does going for larger sizes significantly influence functionality?

For your first grinder, I’d definitely recommend checking out the XR 20V 4.5/5" models. They pack plenty of power for most tasks while remaining compact. Sure, a flexvolt option may seem tempting, but it sounds like you don’t need that level of power for your hobbyist needs.

If you’re considering corded options, the Bosch grinders are excellent. I also think the Rigid R1001 is a gem, and it’s made in Germany by Metabo, which makes it a fantastic deal. Just a heads up, I have a DeWalt cordless and it tends to drain batteries pretty quickly. If money is tight, Harbor Freight has some decent options that might work well for you.
