What type of home is the best choice in the Midwest?

Hey everyone! I'm considering buying a home in the Midwest, and I'm curious about what types of materials are best. I've noticed a lot of new frame houses popping up quickly over the last ten years, but I can't help but think they might not be as good as traditional brick or stone homes. What are the pros and cons of homes made from lumber, brick, or stone? I'm not in the construction field, so I'm hoping for some insights! I know lumber can be prone to issues like wood rot and termites, but what else should I be mindful of when choosing a home?

As someone who works in development, I can tell you that homes built today are generally made to a higher standard than in the past. There's more regulation and the construction process has improved, especially for things like flood protection. Overall, modern homes are designed to last longer than they used to. While frame homes might seem less durable at first glance, they're built with certain codes in mind.

I get that, but don’t you think a lot of these new homes are mostly just frames with insulation and drywall? Seems like they might lack the sturdiness of older homes.
