I have a house built in the 1950s in Toronto, and I'm trying to identify the type of insulation used. I've got a photo of it here: [https://imgur.com/a/RFVFMN5](https://imgur.com/a/RFVFMN5). Can anyone help me figure out what this insulation is?

I agree, it looks like cellulose. I had blown cellulose put in my house, and while it can be a bit loose, it really helps with insulation. Just so you know, some people prefer spray foam insulation because it provides a tighter seal.

It looks like cellulose insulation to me! It’s often blown in, which is likely what you’re seeing. Given the age of the house, it might have been installed recently on top of whatever insulation was already there.

Definitely seems like blown-in cellulose. It's a common choice for retrofitting older homes. It might not be the tightest fit, but it's known for having great fire resistance and insulation value.
