What Type of Mulch Works Best for Your Garden?

I'm looking for advice on the best types of mulch for my gardening projects. I've got four ground plots for vegetables, two raised beds for veggies, and a plot in the ground for cut flowers. I usually buy straw from a local farm supply, but unfortunately, the last bale I got was full of seeds and now I'm dealing with those extra weeds. Do you think it's worth it to invest in quality sifted straw, wood chips, or are there better options out there?

I've always found straw to be my go-to mulch. It’s affordable and one of those 3cu bags lasts a long time! Plus, it makes for easy spreading in the garden. Just keep an eye out for any seedy bales if you're worried about weeds.

Straw is definitely my top pick too! Can't go wrong with it.

It really depends on your garden's needs. In my area, the soil isn’t the best for moisture retention, so I mulch heavily to keep the moisture in. I like using wood chips along pathways and shredded leaves from my property for the veggie patches. Just be aware that mulch can attract pests, especially in arid conditions like mine.

What do you mean by shredded leaves? I’ve been struggling with hot humid weather and want to know if grass clippings can work as mulch.
