What Type of Nest Did I Find in My Mailbox?

Asked By CuriousCritter92 On

I discovered a nest in my mailbox, and I've noticed some creatures flying in and out of it. I'm trying to figure out if it's bees or wasps. Can I just use a store-bought spray to deal with it, or should I get a professional involved?

Here's a link to a picture of the nest for reference: https://ibb.co/39VzjSZ7

Thanks for any help!

You might be looking at a mud dauber nest. They're usually not aggressive, but it's still a good idea to be careful. You can spray them; just make sure to do it at night when they're less active to avoid getting stung.

It sounds like it could be a wasp nest. Just make sure to approach it with caution because getting too close can provoke them. They pack a pretty painful sting! If you're not comfortable handling it yourself, I'd definitely suggest calling a pest control expert.
