What Type of Plywood Should I Use for Sculpting Mushrooms?

I'm working on a small project where I'm sculpting mushrooms out of wood. I've had some success so far, but I want to incorporate plywood for its interesting layers. The problem is, I need the layers to look good when viewed from the side. Does anyone have recommendations for plywood that would work well for this, ideally something that's also easy to find?

If you're looking for plywood with clean layers, Baltic birch is the way to go! It has really nice, uniform layers that are perfect for shaping. Other plywood types can be pretty rough and don't give a good appearance when shaped, plus they don't stain well either. So definitely stick with Baltic birch for your project!

Good to know! I was leaning towards that too.

Thanks for the insight! Baltic sounds like the perfect fit.

Have you considered marine plywood? It tends to have fewer voids and is pretty durable, which might be great for your project.

I hadn't thought of that option! I'll look into it.
