What Type of Screw Head Am I Dealing With?

I'm trying to figure out the type of screw head on my shower drain. There are two screws; one is a standard Phillips, but the other one has a strange design that looks like a flat 'X'. It doesn't seem stripped, just very flat, and I'm not sure how to remove it. Any ideas? Here's a picture for reference: https://imgur.com/a/g3nDl5o

It sounds like you might be dealing with a Posidriv screw! Sometimes they can get gunked up, which makes them look odd. You might want to check out a hardware store like Harbor Freight for a Posidriv bit.

Thanks for the tip! I wasn't sure. It really doesn't look like it has gunk in it though; it just seems super flat!

Yeah, it might also be that the wrong size screw head has been used before. Try cleaning it out first. You could use a toothpick to see if there's anything stuck in there.

Another thing to consider is that it could be filled with grout. If that's the case, a careful clean might help you get a better look at the screw.
