I'm diving into some higher-end woodworking projects and planning to build a TV console about 15 inches deep. The challenge I'm facing is finding a single piece of wood that can cover the length of the console while maintaining that depth. I'm not keen on using plywood due to its unappealing look and rough edges. However, I'm aware that hardwood planks typically max out around 12 inches wide. Any suggestions on what wood I should choose or how to tackle this design?

Check out smaller lumber suppliers instead of the big box stores. They'll have wider planks available beyond the standard 12 inches for species like oak, maple, or walnut. You could even look for a live edge slab if you're feeling adventurous, but keep in mind it might cost more if you're aiming for high-end!
Try getting a nice plywood like clear face Fir and adding a 1/4 inch piece to cover the ends for a more polished look. Just glue it on, and you should be good!
You might want to consider using a good quality cabinet-grade plywood. If you do it right with a face frame and proper backing, it can look really nice!

I appreciate the tip! Unfortunately, I don't have any specialty lumber shops nearby. The online choices seem limited to about 12 inches too.
