What Wood Should I Use to Make a Drinking Cup?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to make a drinking cup and I'm not really sure what type of wood I should use or how to create the bottom part as a single piece. I'm mostly going to be working with chisels and I have access to coniferous trees. Any suggestions on wood types or techniques?

If you're looking for inspiration, birch has been a popular choice in northern Europe for making traditional mugs known as 'kuksa' for centuries. They have a great aesthetic and are comfortable to drink from! Definitely worth checking out.

Yeah, that sounds cool! I'm actually leaning more towards crafting something resembling a Viking cup for beer. I’ve heard pine is easy to work with but is it also sturdy enough for a deep cup?
