What’s a fair hourly wage to bid for a cemetery maintenance job?

I'm considering bidding for a maintenance job at a 12-acre cemetery with around 1400 stones. It runs from spring to fall, and they want an hourly wage. I would be responsible for tasks like managing pathways, trees, weeding, garden beds, mowing, and maintaining fences and gates. The town is providing all the necessary equipment and fuel, which is a plus. I'm aiming to find a fair wage that won't scare them away, while also ensuring I can pay my bills. I'm thinking somewhere between $35 and $40 per hour. Does that sound reasonable? This is my first bid for a larger job, so all opinions are appreciated!

If you're an independent contractor, you probably want to strike a balance between being competitive and ensuring you get a fair wage. $35 to $40 can be decent, but depending on your area, the demand might support a higher bid. Just keep in mind all your costs when you calculate that rate!

Exactly! Just because they provide equipment doesn’t mean you don’t have value. Think about your skills and how much effort it’ll take!

I'd aim for at least $50 an hour for that kind of work. Even with all the tools supplied, you need to factor in the physical labor and expertise you'll bring. Plus, with municipal jobs, they often have the budget for quality work, and you shouldn’t undervalue your skills. Consider your experience and the demand they have for someone reliable!

Yeah, I agree! It's important to set a price that reflects your quality, especially in a town where they might appreciate someone who does a good job. Don't sell yourself short.
