What’s a fair price for a custom kitchen island?

Hey there! I'm about to have a custom kitchen island installed and I'm trying to figure out if the quote I received is reasonable. The island will measure 4 feet wide by 9 feet long, featuring a total of 4 cabinets with drawers and doors for storage. The remaining space will resemble a table, supported by two legs at either end, and I can fit about 5 chairs underneath it. It doesn't have anything extra besides some preexisting outlets. I got one quote but would love to hear what others think a fair price would be for something like this from a quality cabinet company — I want to know if it's in the right ballpark or if I'm being overcharged. Note that the quote is for the island only, not including the countertop.

Honestly, it might be best to get multiple quotes from local cabinet installers instead of relying on a Reddit opinion. Custom cabinets and countertops can get pricey! Just a heads-up, if you’re looking for realistic pricing, asking folks with similar experiences might give you a clearer picture.

I built a custom island that was 4’x6’ with 4 big slide-out drawers and a trash drawer. It came in around $3,300 from a local woodworker, and I got a deal because I helped him out with some work in return. Normally, I’d guess it runs $4,000 to $4,300 for something similar without favors. Just to give you a heads-up, one local custom cabinet business quoted me $8,000 for an island alone (not including a countertop) — that’s why I went with the woodworker instead.
