I'm looking to invest in a helical planer since I've heard so many good things about them. My wife has given me the green light to get one, but the Dewalt model seems a bit pricey. I believe in buying quality tools that last, but I can't seem to find a good deal locally. Can anyone recommend a solid second option that won't break the bank?

Honestly, don’t just go for a helical head for the sake of it. If you can swing it, I’d recommend the Dewalt 735. It's really been the best choice for hobbyists like us. I’ve had mine for years and the straight knives are super easy to replace and quite affordable. Unless you're considering higher-end brands like Powermatic or Laguna, this is the way to go!

Yeah, I get that, but my brother-in-law has the Dewalt 735 and he’s not a fan. He really wishes he’d opted for a helical head instead.
