I'm dealing with a pesky drain fly situation in my bathroom sink. However, I have small pets, and I'm really concerned about using any drain cleaner that might let off dangerous fumes. Since my bathroom is windowless, I'm considering opening the windows in the adjacent bedroom, but that means I'd have to keep the bedroom closed off for however long the fumes linger. I've read stories about some toxic cleaners having fumes that stick around for days, and that's definitely a no-go for me. So, I'm looking for safe options that won't harm my pets and don't linger in the air for too long. Any recommendations?

I’ve had success with Green Gobbler; it’s a safer option and seems to help with drain flies. You might also want to try pouring boiling water down the drain daily for a week. Sometimes the more thorough approach works best—like disassembling the trap and giving it a good scrub. It's a bit of effort, but way worth it if you're trying to avoid chemicals.
If you're worried about fumes, I’d recommend a half cup of bleach. Just let it sit without rinsing it down right away. It can be effective without releasing harmful fumes. Just make sure you keep the area ventilated while it’s working its magic!

Isn't that a bit too simple? I worry about how long the bleach smell might linger.
