Hey everyone! I need some help figuring out an issue with my kitchen ceiling in my 100-year-old house in southwestern Ontario. I've noticed a specific spot that's sagging a bit. When I poked it with my finger, it actually went through the ceiling, and I'm not sure what I'm dealing with. I found some chunks of material inside, but it's hard to say exactly what it is without making the hole bigger. Any ideas or insights?

It sounds like you might be dealing with water damage, especially since it was soft enough for your finger to go through. I'd suggest checking for any leaks first before trying to fix the ceiling.
Those chunks could just be plaster. It's common in older homes, and it can be pretty crumbly and chalky when it breaks down. Just be careful when you're inspecting!
It looks like you might have a sagging rafter issue. Check if there's any chance of water getting in from above—like from a roof leak or plumbing issue. Since your kitchen is below the bathroom, that could be a likely culprit.
Kitchen is right under the bathroom. Guess it could be that.

Ugh. Thanks for the heads up!
