What’s Going Wrong with My Indoor Potatoes?

I've successfully grown store-bought potatoes before, but now I'm facing some issues while growing them indoors due to the cold. Instead of cutting the potatoes in half like I usually do, I planted whole ones this time, thinking it might yield more spuds. I've also tried both organic and inorganic varieties to see if there was any difference in quality, and surprisingly, both have grown exceptionally well. However, the plants are tall with small leaves, growing more like vines than typical potato plants. I suspect it might be related to the 4-4-4 organic fertilizer I used, but after planting some without it, the growth pattern remains the same. I'm using Burpee organic potting soil in grow bags and providing them with light from a grow lamp. It's been two months, and I've checked the soil but haven't found any potatoes. What could be causing these weird vines instead of healthy potato growth?

Honestly, it might be a classic case of not enough light. Indoor growing can be tricky, and potatoes generally love a lot of light to thrive.

It sounds like your potatoes might be reaching for more light. How strong are your grow lights? Sometimes when the light isn't sufficient, they elongate like that trying to find it.

If you want those potatoes to actually form, try adding some sulfate of potash. Potassium is an essential nutrient for potato production!
