I've been hearing a really strange sound that reminds me of a power drill whirring inside my wall. It's not accompanied by any vibrations or banging, and thankfully, it doesn't last very long. It's pretty unsettling since I have no idea what could be causing it. I've only noticed this noise twice: once last night and once a month or two ago. I live in a basement suite, and the sound seems to be coming from the wall that's between my bedroom and the entrance stairs.

What about a water pump for your fridge’s ice maker? Those can sometimes make whirring noises, especially when they fill up.
If you have an AC system, sometimes the condensate drain pump can make sounds like that when it ejects water. But if you don’t have air conditioning, maybe it's something more paranormal, like a demon digging up from below! Just kidding, hopefully it's not that.
It sounds like it could be related to some sort of pump. Have you checked the entrance side to see if there are any pipes running through that wall? Sometimes water pressure issues can create weird noises like that.
I didn’t see any piping on that side. The water main valve is in my room, which is on the other side, but still nothing obvious. It’s odd though since I'm in bed all night and it doesn't happen often, but it was super noticeable last night.

Definitely no AC here, and I'm really hoping there's no demon either!
