I'm looking for advice on the cost of encapsulating a crawl space and getting mold treatment done in our home. It's a 1,250 square foot house built in 1994. We received an estimate of $27,000 for a drainage system, encapsulation, a dehumidifier, and mold treatment. However, an acquaintance mentioned that their company usually charges around $15,000 for similar services without even inspecting the house yet. Other companies quoted us $3,400 just for mold treatment and another quoted $9,100 for mold treatment plus a new vapor barrier. My spouse thinks the quotes are overpriced, while I feel $15,000 is fairly standard. What do you think it should cost?

I think $27,000 is way too high unless the drainage system includes really comprehensive features. For reference, I had a similar job done on a 1,050 sqft place – new vapor barrier and mold treatment, but no dehumidifier – and it only cost me about $8,000. Just to be clear, my drainage system was a French drain with a sump pump.
In my area, the average is around $19,000, but keep in mind that usually doesn't include mold treatment. So your acquaintance’s estimate of $15,000 might be more in line with what you can expect, especially if it includes everything you're looking for.

Yeah, that’s really interesting! What kind of sump pump did you use?
