What’s the Average Cost to Install a Basic 32” Entry Door?

I got quotes from two ProVia dealers for installing a basic 32" entry door, and they both came in around $3,000 to $3,500. This price shocked me! I found some Masonite doors at Home Depot for just $430 that I'd be happy with, but I'm unsure how to find a trustworthy installer since I've heard mixed reviews about Home Depot's contractors. I live in Northern Virginia, which is known for its high cost of living, but this $3,000 estimate seems way too high.

Honestly, the quotes you're getting aren't too far from normal. You might want to look for a local handyman who could do the job at a lower cost. Installing a door isn't too complicated, but it does require some experience and the right tools. Finding a good handyman can be tricky, but it might be worth asking around locally.

Thanks! I’ve been watching a ton of YouTube videos, so I understand the process, but since it’s a brick rough opening, I prefer to let someone experienced handle it.

I got a similar quote in Pennsylvania and I'm considering it because the quality seems solid. It’s definitely something you want to get right, as it can be easy to mess up. Sometimes paying a bit more for a knowledgeable company can save you headaches down the line.

Totally get that! I wish I had the budget for it now, so I'm just hoping to find something more affordable.

The labor cost typically ranges from $1,000 to $1,500 for exterior doors nowadays. Ultimately, the price really depends on the door you choose. If you want, you could ask for a quote just for the installation, using your own door.

Thanks for that info! It sounds like the contractors I've talked to are either charging high rates or trying to push fancier doors on me.
