What’s the Best Affordable and Simple Way to Keep Weeds Out of My Yard?

I've really struggled with my yard and need some help figuring out a budget-friendly way to stop weeds from taking over. When we first bought our house years ago, we had mulch around the edges, but it's totally deteriorated since then, and now it's just a haven for weeds. We were planning to do some landscaping this spring, but I recently lost my job, so I'm looking for cheap and easy solutions, even if they're just temporary and don't look the best. Any suggestions to keep these 3-foot weeds at bay during the summer would be super appreciated!

You could try using some herbicides like 2-4D, which won't hurt your grass but will take out most weeds. Just make sure to follow the instructions on the label. I've had luck using Glyphosate too, which kills everything. You can knock everything down, wait a couple of weeks, and then plant some wildflower seeds. They can create a nice low-maintenance patch, and you can keep the weeds down with some selective spraying if needed.

Honestly, this is probably exactly the advice I was looking for.

A simple way to deal with this is to rake back the mulch, pull out as many weeds as you can, then lay down some quality landscape fabric before putting the mulch back on top. Adding more mulch is a good idea since it’s often cheap or even free if you can get it in bulk!

I recommend avoiding chemicals if possible. Try pulling weeds by hand or dig them out and turn the soil. Vinegar can work as a natural weed killer if you want to go that route! Just don’t forget that you might need to reapply if they come back!

So, if vinegar isn't 'poisoning' the plants, how is it killing them? And how effective is it on tougher perennial weeds with larger roots?
