What’s the Best Budget-Friendly Kitchen Flooring for a DIY Project?

I'm looking to replace the flooring in my mid-sized galley kitchen, which also has a small dining area. I don't have any pets but I do have teenagers, and since I cook a lot, I want something durable. However, I'm planning to move in a couple of years, so I don't want to spend a fortune. Additionally, I'm working on paying down debt and saving for the move. I have family members who are handy and can assist with a DIY installation, so I'm interested in options that I can put in myself.

Another good option is LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank). It’s completely waterproof and pretty simple to install, plus it holds up well. Just go for a 20 mil wear layer with a rigid core for durability. I wouldn’t lean towards laminate, though; they claim to be waterproof but it usually has a catch after a while.

If you're trying to keep costs low, I’d suggest going with sheet vinyl or linoleum. They are durable, easy to install, and somewhat similar to what you already have. Just a heads up, make sure to install it properly under your appliances, including the dishwasher, to avoid future issues.
