What’s the Best Compact 48V to 240V Inverter for My DIY Projects?

Hey everyone! I'm on the hunt for a 48V DC to 240V AC inverter that won't break the bank or lead me to those sketchy brands like WZRELB or Ampinvt from Amazon. I'm not looking to power a whole house, but I recently modified a Ryobi mower to use large 48V lithium iron phosphate batteries, and I want to use an inverter to create a mobile battery pack or generator for charging tools while I'm out in the woods.

I need about 5kW of power output with a split-phase, 120V-N-120V configuration. I've searched high and low, but all I seem to find are either unknown brands or overpriced industrial models. My main focus here is on compact size, so any suggestions on reliable alternatives would be greatly appreciated!

You could consider the EG4 series; the 6000xp model gives you more than enough power, though I see you're concerned about size. There's also a 3kW yellow model available for $700 if you only need 120V. Just keep in mind that for 240V, you might need a different setup altogether.

Thanks for the tips! Sadly, I really do need that 240V setup, and the 6k xp is just too bulky for what I have in mind.

The big challenge might actually come from your wood chipper; it sounds like a beast! Charging tools usually won’t exceed 500W, so a smaller inverter rated around 1000W ought to suffice for that. But for your wood chipper, you're looking at serious power that a standard big inverter can handle, which could get pricey. Honestly, if you're concerned about portability, consider sticking with a compact gas generator for those tougher tasks instead!

That's a great point! I might need to look into a mix depending on what I'll be using the most.

It sounds like you might not even need split-phase for your project. Many chargers can handle 85-265V, especially for smaller, portable uses. Since this is a DIY project, you might get away with a compact inverter from reliable brands in China or Taiwan. I personally recommend Ecoworthy, as they offer robust 240V inverters for around $900 CAD. Check out some reviews before making your choice!

Have you checked out the Zetawale GXTK-48V-2500? It’s a 2500W continuous inverter that peaks at 5000W and runs on 120V. If you’re after split-phase, Eco-Worthy has options, but I can’t say the reviews are much better than those lesser-known brands. Just be aware, if you're pushing 5000W continuous from a 48V 100Ah battery, your runtime might be limited; expect around 45 minutes at max load! I'd recommend at least 4 AWG wire for safe operation.

Do you know if the Zetawale can be linked in parallel for 240V setups? I've heard the Eco-Worthy needs that as well.
