What’s the Best Cordless Drill for New Homeowners?

Hey everyone! I recently became a homeowner and I'm getting into some basic DIY projects like fixing shelves and putting together furniture. I'm in the market for a reliable cordless drill that can handle a variety of jobs without breaking down after a few months. I want something durable that I won't have to replace anytime soon. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to check out the Ridgid line at Home Depot. They have a Lifetime Service Agreement that covers both your tool and battery for life! During the Black Friday sales, you can grab some fantastic deals, too. I've been using a Ridgid for a couple of years and it’s worked great. My dad even tried to steal it because he liked it so much!

Same here! I got a Ridgid kit for around $500, and even after some tough use, like falling off a roof, it still works like a champ. The batteries are solid, too!

I went with Makita years ago for light-duty work, and it’s held up perfectly! Milwaukee and DeWalt are also excellent choices. Just be cautious with brands like Ryobi and Bauer, which can be underpowered compared to these top brands.

Thanks for the tip! I was starting to think I was the only one who preferred Makita.

For the kinds of DIY projects you're doing, the Ryobi One+ 18V series is fantastic. They cover a wide range of tools at a great price. Pros might prefer Milwaukee for their specialty tools, but for most homeowners, Ryobi hits the sweet spot without costing too much.

Totally agree! If you're just doing light tasks around the house, Ryobi will serve you well. But if you're planning to do a lot of work, Dewalt or Milwaukee might be better long-term investments.

I've had the DEWALT Compact for years now, and it's never let me down. It's lightweight, powerful, and the battery lasts a long time. Plus, it comes with a 45-piece screwdriving set, which is a nice added bonus! If you're after something reliable without breaking the bank, this is a solid choice.

Honestly, major brands like Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Ryobi are all good options. Just remember that once you pick a brand, you’re pretty much locked in because of the battery systems. I've been using Ryobi for over 15 years, and despite the need to replace a few batteries, it’s been worth every penny. They handle everything I'm doing around the house without any issues.
