What’s the Best Finish for Wooden Ashtrays?

I'm looking to craft some ashtrays using Walnut wood and want to know the best type of finish to use. Given that the ash will be hot and could potentially burn the wood, what would you recommend?

For wooden ashtrays, I've found that Carnuba wax is a popular choice since it's food-safe and gives a nice finish. However, keep in mind that it might not withstand really hot ash well. You may want to test it out to see if it holds up to the heat!

That's true, but from my experience, the ash isn't usually a big problem. It's mostly the hot red ash that burns. Just don't grind your cigar out in it and you should be fine!
