Hey everyone! I'm new to woodworking and I'm trying to get a handle on which glue is best for starters. I currently have some LePage Carpenter's glue that I use for keeping my Ikea furniture stable (don't judge, I've got toddlers!). I'm also planning my first project, a wide stepstool for the bathroom, and I want to make sure I choose the right glue for the job. Any recommendations?

It's great that you're starting out! Just remember that adhesive selection is more about the type rather than the brand. For woodworking, look into PVA glues like Titebond. Each type has its own strengths, with Titebond 1, 2, and 3 tailored for different projects. Titebond 2 is a solid choice for general use, while Titebond 3 offers more water resistance if you're working on outdoor stuff.
For beginners, Gorilla Wood Glue or Titebond 2 are both excellent choices. They're easy to use and hold up well for most projects. Just a tip: remember that PVA glues like these only bond porous materials, like wood, and they don’t hold up well in water. If you want something stronger or for non-porous materials, you might consider using CA glue or epoxy for specific tasks.
I’ve been using Titebond 3 for over 25 years—it's been my go-to and hasn't failed me yet! There are times when a two-part epoxy might work better, especially for stronger bonds or when you're fixing antiques. The key is picking the right glue based on what you're working on!
