I'm looking for advice on how to properly hold outside joists on a corner beam for a shed I'm building. In a similar setup shown in this picture (the link is a reference image), you can see a support beam coming from a 4x4 deck block connecting to the joists. The image seems to show just six deck screws, but I feel like that's not enough.
Even though my shed is under the size limit of 215 square feet, I want to ensure it's sturdy enough to handle the weight it's meant to support. I'm thinking of using two coach bolts per 2x6 joist rated for outdoor use, but I'm also considering whether there should be some kind of bracket or hanger for better load distribution instead of just relying on screws. Any suggestions?

Using hurricane ties can be a solid choice for connecting joists to beams. Look for these types of straps and attach them at the inside corners for a secure fit. Just make sure to use the appropriate length of nails or screws to avoid them sticking out awkwardly. Alternatively, you can use cripple studs under the joists to help carry the load down to the top of the block, but that will bulk up the corners a bit.
Simpson offers hangers designed specifically for this kind of application, which is probably your best bet for ensuring everything stays secure. Some folks might not like how they look, but they’re super functional. Alternatively, you might consider notching your posts to inset the joists, but I'm not a fan of that method myself. A few structural lag screws could also do the trick.
Joist hangers might be what you're looking for! They come in various sizes and can significantly increase load strength. Remember that screws are not very good under horizontal stress, so typically, nails or bolts are preferred for structural connections, while you can save the screws for less critical parts like the decking.
