What’s the Best Oil Finish for a Walking Staff?

Hey everyone! I'm a complete newbie working on a 5ft ash walking staff and I'm trying to figure out the best oil finish to use. I've come across a lot of mixed advice, so I thought I'd reach out for some tips. Here's what I'm looking for in an oil finish:

- Durable and protective
- Not too tacky or artificial feeling
- Minimal discoloration (a slight darkening is fine)
- Ideally as natural as possible

I've heard raw linseed oil could be a good choice, but I'm concerned it might go rancid. I also see boiled linseed oil recommended a lot, but I worry about the toxic metal driers and it possibly giving a glossy finish. Any insights or recommendations you all have would be really appreciated!

You should definitely consider using polymerized linseed oil—it won't go rancid like the raw stuff. I usually go for Tried and True finishes; they're great for various projects.

Is that no-VOC like Walrus Oil PLO?
