What’s the Best Order for Home Renovations: Floors, Trim, Walls, and More?

Hey everyone! I'm new to home improvements, and I'm planning a big renovation that will cost tens of thousands of dollars. I want to make sure I tackle the tasks in a reasonable order to avoid any pain later on. Here's what I need to do: refinish hardwood floors, paint trim throughout the house, paint the walls, replace the carpet, and replace the kitchen tile. What would be the best order to get these done? Thanks for your help!

I’d be cautious about painting the trim before refinishing the floors. You might need to remove some baseboards during the sanding process, and they could get damaged. It’s better to do the floors first to avoid any dings to the trim.

You should start by removing the carpet and kitchen tile, then paint the walls and crown molding. After that, install the new tile and finally refinish the hardwood floors. This sequence helps keep everything clean since the dirtiest jobs are done first, and any paint splashes won't be as problematic after the floors are refinished. Plus, the carpet should go in last for a tidy finish!

I recommend doing it this way: first, tackle the painting, then the carpet and tile, and finish with the hardwood floors. This way, you're dealing with the messiest jobs first, and you won't risk damaging anything you’ve just installed.
