What’s the Best Saw for Breaking Down Old Furniture?

I'm looking for a reliable electric hand tool to help me break down my old wood furniture. I live in a small condo in Hawaii, and I've had this furniture for about 40 years. Instead of paying someone to haul it away, I'd prefer to chop it up myself into smaller pieces. What type of saw would you recommend for this task?

If you go for a cordless, I recently got an 18V one-handed reciprocating saw, and it works like a charm. It's great when I want to avoid the bulk of a two-handed version. Just make sure you get the right blade, and you'll be cutting through thick parts without any issues. Happy to help if you need more tips on it!

While a reciprocating saw is definitely the right tool, have you thought about just giving the furniture away? Posting on Facebook Marketplace could attract someone willing to pick it up for free, you might be surprised by the interest.

A reciprocating saw is your best bet for this kind of job. It's powerful enough to slice through nails and wood easily, which is perfect for deconstructing furniture. A one-handed version would be especially comfortable to use, and you can also use it for trimming trees if you have any plants that need looking after.

Totally agree! The one-handed models are so much easier to manage and still pack a punch.

100% this. A Sawzall is a game changer!
