I'm trying to figure out the best saw for cross-cutting 2x4 lumber. Should I go with a miter saw or is a circular saw better for this task?

If you're focusing on cross-cutting, a miter saw is definitely the way to go. It's built specifically for that and will give you clean, precise cuts. Just to clarify, if you're talking about ripping, that's a different story—you're going along the length of the board with a circular saw, though I'd recommend a table saw for that task if you can swing it.

So ripping is cutting along the length, right? I thought cross-cutting is cutting across the shorter end, like trimming a long board down to size.
