What’s the Best Screw Type for Mounting a Squirrel House on a Tree?

I'm looking to securely mount a couple of wooden squirrel shelters outside my home. Each house weighs about 7 lbs, and I want to make sure I use the right type and size of screws. Any recommendations?

If you want extra security, look into using GRK screws or Timberlok screws. They’re super strong and will keep your squirrel houses mounted for a long time without worrying about them coming loose.

Just a heads up, some people might not be a fan of attracting squirrels. They can sometimes cause damage to gardens and flower beds if you live close to trees. You might want to consider that!

For your squirrel houses, I’d recommend using stainless steel lag screws that are about 2.5 inches long and 5/16 inches in diameter. It's best to pre-drill the holes to avoid damaging the tree. Stainless steel will hold up well against the elements too!
