I'm about to install a no-dig garden fence made of cedar wood, and I need some advice on the best way to protect it from the elements. I'm looking for something that offers good flexibility during weather changes, is easy to apply, and doesn't break the bank. I've heard suggestions ranging from varnish to spar urethane, so I'm hoping to find the best sealant for cedar that can ensure it lasts while maintaining its appearance!

Just a heads up, any wood treated with varnish or polyurethane will need to be refinished every couple of years if exposed directly to the elements. I’ve had good luck with Cetol for my outdoor wood surfaces since you can easily pressure wash it to clean and reapply without a ton of hassle.
I’d recommend going with spar urethane! It's flexible enough not to get too rigid, which means it can expand and contract with the wood. This is important for longevity, especially in varying weather.
Cedar usually does just fine on its own without any finish, especially if you don’t mind it aging to a nice silver color. Not everyone loves that look, but it can save you maintenance costs long-term. If you do want to protect it, spar finishes are solid as they are super durable for outdoor conditions and typically require less upkeep than others.
