I'm looking to build a Moxon vise and I'm torn between options. I'm considering a larger size with around 25 inches between the screws, which would be great for any future casework I might do. On the other hand, I'm thinking a smaller size of about 16 to 18 inches might be more practical for the majority of my projects, like boxes and drawers. What have others done, and what influenced your size choices?

I ended up making mine about 30 inches between the screws. It gives me a lot of flexibility for larger projects. I like having the extra space, even if I don't use it all the time. Just a heads-up, I think having a flat surface behind the rear jaw can be handy for support.

That sounds like a solid plan! I totally agree about wanting that flat surface—it makes everything easier when working on bigger pieces.
