I'm looking for recommendations on the best soil to buy for growing carrots, as I can't mix my own compost. I plan to purchase soil from stores like Home Depot, Lowe's, or Tractor Supply. I've read that carrots thrive in low nitrogen soils that are higher in phosphorus and potassium. Can anyone suggest specific soil brands or types that they've used successfully for growing carrots?

I totally get that mixing your own compost isn’t an option. While big box store soil is often not the best, if you have to use it, look for something labeled as 'potting mix' or 'seed starting mix' that's light and well-draining. Just make sure it’s free of big chunks and rocks! When it comes to containers or garden beds, just ensure the soil is deep and loose enough for the type of carrots you’re growing because some varieties need more room than others. Good luck!
Honestly, I’ve found that while some store soils aren’t ideal, you can still have success by adding some perlite or sand to store-bought mixes. This can improve drainage and aeration, which carrots really need. If you can find a soil that mentions being suitable for root vegetables, that’s usually a good sign too!

Thanks for the tips! If I do find store-bought options, would mixing different soils help achieve the right texture for carrots, or would that make things worse?
