I'm currently building a metal gate using 7/8" corrugated sheet metal, 26 gauge, that's painted on both sides. I need to make a few notches for the gate latch, which means cutting across the wave pattern. I tried using a nibbler attachment for my drill, but it scratched the metal quite a bit on both sides. I also have double-cut metal shears from Harbor Freight, but they don't work well for cutting across the width. Even though I'm prepared for some tough work, I'm looking for recommendations on the best tool to achieve a clean notch cut without damaging the finish too much. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Manual snips might be the way to go for clean cuts since they give you more control, especially on smaller notches. It's a bit more labor-intensive, but you won't risk scratching the metal like with power tools.
Have you considered using an angle grinder? Just remember to apply painters tape to mark out your cut first; it helps minimize burn marks. A clean disk can make a huge difference too! Just test it on some scrap metal if you can.
I’ve had success using a Dremel with a diamond burr bit or cutting wheel for precision cuts. Just be sure to wear safety glasses!
