I recently bought a home that used to be a rental, and we're working hard to spruce it up and get rid of that landlord feel. One of my biggest pet peeves is the color variety of the wall outlet and switch covers. There are at least five different colors scattered throughout the place: white, almond/ivory, black, stainless steel, and a bizarre hand-painted tri-color grey. The wall trim is mostly white, but some rooms have black trim and others are stained wood. Most of the walls will be painted in lighter shades of blue once we get to repainting. I'm okay with some color variety, but I'd prefer not to have five different colors all around the house. Are there general guidelines for matching these covers? Thanks!

I've got different cover plates based on the room vibe. For the living room, I use ornate bronze plates, and for the bedroom, I have this cute blue collage one with a deer that says 'good night dear.' In the kitchen, I matched the plates with the green appliances, but everywhere else, I just went with plain white from the dollar store. It's all about what fits the mood of each area, really! Just think about what matches best with your appliances and decor, and you'll do great!
Honestly, just go with what feels right for you! It's your space, so make it personal. If you want to keep it simple, try to stick with one or two colors that complement your trim and walls. White is a classic that goes with pretty much anything, and black can match well with darker trims. Just find what you love and roll with it!
I hear you! I like to coordinate mine with the room colors too, but my spouse has great taste and manages the aesthetics for us.
That's a clever approach! I’m thinking of keeping white and maybe going for some matching black covers for the darker trim. It keeps it all cohesive!
