What’s the Best Way to Clean Homegrown Fruits and Veggies?

I'm really curious about how everyone cleans their homegrown fruits and veggies. I grow a lot of produce, but I always find the cleaning process tedious. I want to know if you all have any tips for washing off bugs, dirt, or any other residues without wasting too much time. How do you ensure your food is clean?

I usually just give my produce a quick rinse. I believe if it's homegrown, it's not as dirty as store-bought. You know, humans lived for ages without over-sanitizing everything! I only wash leafy greens right before I eat them, especially if I plan to store them for a few days.

Totally agree! It makes sense to let nature do its thing. Just be sensible about it.

For sure! I just rinse and go for the most part. It's just more natural.

I usually clean mine with just water and sometimes add a bit of vinegar for the extra cleaning power. Especially with berries, you never know what might be hiding!

Great tip! I've used vinegar too, especially when I find worms in the berries.

Vinegar definitely helps with those little critters!

For bigger batches, I soak everything in a bucket for a bit — it really helps with the dirt coming off. Just be careful because washing can reduce the shelf life of your veggies, so try to keep that in mind!

That sounds smart! Soaking seems like the way to go, especially for root veggies.

Yes! I totally do that too when I'm washing a lot at once. Works like a charm.
