My grandma planted some rhododendrons in the backyard, and they still bloom beautifully every year, even though they haven't gotten much care. However, they take up a lot of space in our small yard, and I'm wondering if it's possible to cut them back to make them a bit smaller. I'd love some tips on how to do this safely!

Oh, and if you forget your gardening tips, here's a helpful picture I wanted to share!
The best time to cut back rhododendrons is just after they bloom. I did this with mine, which are about 50–60 years old, and they're coming back nicely! Just trim them to the size you want, and they should be fine.
Yeah, cutting after flowering is crucial! Just be cautious about how much you cut at once because they're slow-growing. If needed, you can do it gradually over a few years. After you cut, leave them be so they can set flowers for next year. They don’t like to be disturbed right after trimming.
