Hey everyone! I'm working on a project bed for my kid and need to cut down some 4x4s into smaller dimensions. I'm looking to get 6 pieces that are 2.5"x2.5"x8', but I can only find the standard 4x4s at my local stores. I have a miter saw on hand, but I'm open to picking up other affordable tools if necessary. I know that re-sawing can be tricky, so I'm looking for the best methods or tips for cutting these boards down safely and effectively. Any advice would be super helpful! Thanks in advance!

You might want to look for local maker spaces or schools that have bandsaws you can use. Honestly, ripping 8-foot boards on a table saw isn't the safest option. If you do go that route, just be super cautious!
I've actually ripped some 4x4s into 2.5x2.5 with my table saw for a couple of tables, and it was pretty quick! Just keep in mind that the wood can warp while you cut, which can mess with its usability. If you can find the right size boards delivered, that’d be the best bet. Otherwise, glueing up some 2x3s could work too!

If you can, consider getting 6x6s and cutting them down from there—that could make it easier! But if you want to stick with 4x4s, a bandsaw is really the best tool for this kind of work. It's safer and gives you a cleaner cut.
Good call on the glue-ups! I’ve seen some people laminate boards for added strength.
