What’s the best way to drill multiple holes in the same orientation on a long dowel?

I'm working with a dowel that's 7'5" (230 cm) long and 2" 1/8th (28mm) in diameter. I need to drill 10 holes along its length, all aligned in the same direction. I have a drill press with a V groove in the base, which keeps the dowel steady and centered under the drill bit. However, I'm trying to figure out the best way to ensure that all holes are oriented consistently. Any tips on how to achieve this?

One way to do this is to create a jig for your drill press. You can drill a hole in the base of your jig and insert a peg. Start by drilling a hole in your dowel and then slide it onto the peg in the jig. From there, drill your second hole, shift it for the next one, and keep going! This keeps everything aligned as you drill.

But remember, you want to make sure the holes don't go all the way through!
