Hey everyone! I just finished installing a new shower surround, and I'm trying to figure out how to properly finish the seams outside and above it. I used one of those inner locking surrounds that fit right onto the studs, and I also put green board around it. I applied moisture-resistant seam tape and did a base layer of drywall compound. Should I go for another coat of drywall mud and feather it out really smoothly before applying Redgard, or is it better to just use Redgard directly? What do you think?

It’s best to do another coat of drywall mud, feather it out nicely, and let it dry fully. Once that’s done, you can apply Redgard over the seams to really ensure moisture protection and get a smooth finish.
Definitely sand the first coat of mud before adding the feathered coat. It’ll help everything stick better. Just make sure to smooth it out well so that the Redgard goes on evenly later!
