I live in a house from the late 70s that has a balcony built right over the garage. The garage actually extends about six feet out from the house, which means the balcony is essentially the roof of the garage. Unfortunately, the balcony slopes toward the house instead of away from it, causing rainwater to pool and drain towards the home. Over time, this has led to damage and some shoddy repair work by the previous owner. Now, whenever it rains, I end up having to cover the balcony with a tarp to prevent leaks into the garage. I'm really looking for a proper way to fix this situation. Is completely restructuring the garage to make it flush with the house the only option? Or are there other solutions?

Definitely try to reach out to a reputable roofer for help. Getting it fixed properly sooner rather than later will save you from more significant water damage down the line.
First off, you definitely need to address the slope issue! A good approach is to remove the existing roofing material, then create a slope that directs water away from the house. After that, you can install new roofing. That should help prevent future leaks.
I get that! If it slopes down toward the house about 4-6 inches, that might complicate things. What about the sliding door? That could be tricky!

You could also consider sloping it slightly towards the middle with a drain, which might be an easier fix! Just make sure it’s done right.
