Hey folks! I'm dealing with a bit of a mess after some intense windstorms here in Portland. When I got home today, I found the lower section of my downspout leaning against my fence. I reached out to my general contractor, and he's coming by tomorrow. But now I noticed the top half is swinging around in the wind and it's honestly a bit scary! Both pieces seem to have come loose from the siding. What's the best way to handle this? Also, could anyone give me an idea of how much repairs might cost? Really appreciate any tips!

Honestly, it might be worth just climbing up a ladder and putting it back into place yourself! It’s not that difficult. I can’t believe you’re letting it swing around like that when it could be a simple fix. You’re about to fork over a bunch of cash for what might just be a screw or a clamp!
It sounds like this could be a pretty straightforward fix! If both parts of the downspout are still in good shape, your contractor can probably just screw them back into place using metal strapping. If they're damaged, though, you might need to replace them. Honestly, this might be more of a handyman job than needing a GC. You might save some cash that way!
Thanks, that’s really helpful to know! I appreciate the quick response, especially since the top half banging against the house is keeping me up at night!

I hear you, but it’s 2am and those winds are wild! I’ll pass on the ladder dive for now!
