What’s the Best Way to Get Rid of a Large Amount of Dirt?

I'm trying to clear out a significant amount of dirt from my garden. Initially, I planned to use special garden bags and make trips to the local tip, but I've filled one bag only a third of the way, and it's already too heavy to move! What are some efficient ways to dispose of all this dirt?

If the weight is the issue, try using rubble sacks that are easier to carry. I usually fill them only halfway so they're manageable, then make multiple trips. It's a bit of work, but it works better than heavy bags!

I'll definitely get the lighter bags! I underestimated how heavy dirt can get when it's all bagged up.

Maybe pick up a foldable trolley to make the trips easier? It’s been a lifesaver for me!

One great option is to post on Facebook Marketplace or similar sites offering the dirt for free. Many people are looking for topsoil, and it’ll likely get snatched up quickly. Just make sure it’s bagged to make it easy for pick-up!

I had a similar experience. I left mine out for collection, but no one showed up. It can be hit or miss!

I did that with my extra dirt and it was gone in a couple of hours. People are always looking for good soil.

If you're dealing with a huge amount, consider hiring a grab lorry. They can take away large loads directly, which means you won't have to bag anything up at all. It's often cheaper, too, compared to renting a large skip!

That sounds amazing! I didn't even know that was an option. Definitely worth looking into.

Yeah, for those bigger jobs, it saves so much time and effort compared to manual labor!
