I'm in the Northeast US and desperately need to get rid of these day lilies that my mom planted everywhere. They're not just taking over my garden, but they also hide weeds, which is super frustrating. I've got cats to consider too, so I want a method that works well but isn't harmful. Any tips on how to eliminate these pesky flowers so I can finally plant some wildflowers instead?

Honestly, the best way to tackle those day lilies is to grab a shovel or a garden fork and start digging them up. The roots aren't usually that deep, so you should be able to get them out without too much hassle. If you're feeling generous, you could even give the rhizomes away to neighbors who might want them!
If you want to offload them, just offer them for free to anyone willing to come help you dig them up. I’d jump at that chance!
They really aren’t that hard to get rid of. Even a small child could dig up a small area of them fairly quickly—okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but still! I wouldn't recommend spraying them since you're planning to plant wildflowers. You might want to think about planting wildflowers in between the day lilies for a little while until you can fully remove them.
