What’s the best way to handle attic insulation and duct work?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice because I'm getting mixed opinions on attic insulation. My attic barely has any insulation right now, and I'm also planning to replace my AC and upgrade the vents. My city has a program that offers free blown-in fiberglass insulation, but I've heard some concerns about it from others. Some people say I might regret going with blown-in insulation because it can cover everything, making it tricky to know where to step, and that it could complicate the duct work later. I'm unsure when I can afford to do the duct work, so should I go ahead with the free insulation, or would I be better off paying for roll insulation? I've also heard that blown-in insulation might get into the vents, which worries me. I'd love to hear about your experiences or opinions on this!

Definitely seal all the gaps before adding any insulation. You don’t have to worry about walking around in the attic if you’re careful about where you put the insulation. In my experience, blown-in insulation can work just as well as roll insulation as long as it’s installed correctly. Just make sure to cover those gaps where your conditioned air might leak!

I’d recommend getting the duct work done first, then seal any gaps to prevent air leaks before insulating. It’s essential to air seal your attic to ensure the insulation works effectively. As for blown-in vs. roll insulation, if you're not planning to go up there often, the blown-in is probably fine. Just seal it up properly and you should be good!

What do you mean by air seal? Are there specific areas I should focus on?
