What’s the Best Way to Handle Old Furniture and Yard Junk During Home Upgrades?

Every time I start a home project, I end up with way more junk than I anticipated—broken furniture, old appliances, yard waste, and other random stuff that just doesn't fit back into the house. I've tried taking it all to the dump in my car, but it gets really time-consuming, especially with bulky items. Renting a dumpster seems right for bigger projects, but for smaller jobs, it feels like overkill. I found this local company in San Marcos, sajunkhaul, that specializes in things like furniture removal and yard cleanups. So, I'm wondering—do most of you think it's better to hire a service for junk removal, or do DIY methods work just as well to save some money? What's been your experience with this during remodels or seasonal cleanups?

If your vehicle has a hitch, I'd recommend renting a small utility trailer from U-Haul for about $20. It’s super handy for getting rid of stuff with a quick dump run! Just load up the trailer and you’re set.

Using a trailer definitely beats making multiple trips with a truck. It saves you time and can hold a decent amount of junk!

When it comes to junk, consider what you can reuse or donate first! If it’s broken or truly garbage, then it’s time to dispose of it. I find that a good donation can clear out a lot of clutter and is better for the environment.

For big renovations, I definitely recommend renting a rolloff dumpster. I usually just use my truck and trailer for dump runs, but if I were to tackle another huge project, I'd go with a dumpster again for sure. It's just more efficient. But hey, it sounds like you might be trying to promote that removal service a bit, huh? Every city has its own options for junk removal if you’re willing to pay for it.
