I live on a busy street and have tried using window inserts to minimize the noise, but it wasn't very convenient to deal with. I'd like to add another window next to my existing one to create an air gap, aiming for something like a four-pane window effect. The opening looks good for this addition. I'm curious about what type of window I should buy that doesn't come with pre-installed flanges or nail fins?

You're probably looking for a replacement window or insert window. Some fiberglass options have removable nailing flanges, so you can choose how to install them. Just a heads up—if both windows get direct sunlight, the heat buildup between them could cause some issues. But I'm really curious to see how your project turns out!

Thanks for the heads up! They do get direct sun, so what's the concern about the heat?
