What’s the Best Way to Insulate a Sunroom with Mesh Screens?

I live in an apartment that features a large sunroom, but instead of standard windows, it's filled with floor-to-ceiling mesh screens. The screens are in pretty bad shape and when it rains, my blackout curtains get soaked, which I'm worried about damaging. I want to keep the natural light coming in but it's just too hot here in Texas to leave the curtains open all the time. Plus, I'm concerned about my cats escaping through the screens since they're starting to fall off in the corners. I'm looking for any easy ways to insulate or cover the windows to keep it cool without causing issues for my curtains or letting my pets get out. I've thought about using a baby gate to keep my cats in, but that doesn't really help with the heat. Any creative solutions?

Since you've got those mesh screens, one idea is to use thin sheets of plexiglass to create actual window panes. You can use clips to secure them in place so they aren’t permanently attached. Just keep in mind that with rain, you'll want to avoid letting moisture sit around the frames to prevent rot.

Honestly, finding an easy fix might be tough. Adding more fans could help a little but you're likely looking at a situation where you need to invest some money for a real solution. Without actual window panes, it's hard to really cool the space down without spending a bunch on someone else's property.

I hear you! It sounds tough to have a room that’s supposed to be a nice space but ends up being a hassle. Using plexiglass might work, but be cautious about heat warping it. I guess you’ll just have to test it out! Good luck!
