What’s the Best Way to Keep My Tools Safe During a Move?

Hey everyone! So my wife landed a new job that includes a relocation package with movers. We've used full-service movers before without issues, but now I've got a collection of power tools for my woodworking hobby, and I'm feeling a bit anxious about it. I can handle the bigger tools like my table saw and planer, but it's the smaller stuff—drills, drivers, and all those little bits—that's making me nervous. We'll be tight on space in our car since it'll be packed with us and our cat when we drive out. Has anyone dealt with this before? Is it just a trust-the-process situation, or should I take extra steps to ensure everything arrives safely? Thanks!

If you're concerned about your tools, first thing you should do is take an inventory. Write down what you have and snap some pictures for your records. If possible, try to pack and label them yourself; it gives you a little more control. Consider using tamper-evident seals if that makes you feel better. Honestly, if those tools are really valuable to you, I'd suggest either transporting them yourself or having them shipped separately. Just make sure you're going with a reputable moving company—you definitely don’t want to end up with Jim-bob's moving service!

Haha, I think I’ve used Jim-bob’s too many times! Back in my day, this was never a concern, but now I definitely recommend transporting your tools yourself if you can. Makes things way less stressful.
