I've got a back yard that's really uneven, measuring around 20'x40'. The height varies by about 3 to 4 inches, creating lots of small mounds and divots that make walking a bit dangerous. I'm thinking about mowing the grass super short, then spreading a thin layer of topsoil to even things out before reseeding to let the grass grow back. Does this sound like a good plan, or am I heading for trouble? What's the best way to tackle this?

My coworker mentioned the same thing when I complained about my bumpy yard. He swore by using a sand and dirt mixture. I don't need a perfectly smooth yard, just want to stop my mower from bouncing all over the place. I’ll try it out first, but if it doesn’t work, I might hire a landscaper to handle it.
